Sydney has many great hikes and coastal walks and one of my favorites is the Spit to Manly walk. You can do it both ways, either from Manly to Spit Bridge or the other way around. We started at Spit Bridge, because we wanted to explorer Manly afterwards.
SPIT BRIDGE TO MANLY WALK DESCRIPTION
The Manly Scenic Walkway is about 10km long, so take your time and plan about 3 hours if you don’t want to walk too fast. It has quite a few stairs in it, so be prepared for that. There are some detours for everyone who likes to stay on the walkway and doesn’t want to walk through sand or small muddy bush walks. If you’re walking during high tide you sometimes even have to take the detours because some of the passages will get flooded. There are lots of stunning lookouts with views over Sydney, harbors, coastal cliffs and in general the Pacific Ocean. One of my favorite spots for a short break and to enjoy the view is Dobroyd Head, which is halfway along the Spit to Manly walk.
We’d really like the Manly Scenic Walkway and after walking the 10 kilometers you can enjoy the beach and Manly and grab some food and drinks before heading back with the ferry. Also the ferry will offer you a stunning view over the Sydney Skyline including the Harbor Bridge and the famous Opera House.
Spit Bridge is easy accessible by bus from the city, so just catch a bus from Sydney cbd. If you end at Manly you have to take the ferry to get back to Circular Quay. You can find the bus and Manly ferry times in the OPAL App – just use the trip planner.
